Mandelbox “Alien Hive”

A flight through a scale 2 mandelbox. Has the qualities of some alien city or futurescape. Info: 2500 frames, 640×480, 23.976fps playback, 52 hours of render time (given the specific render settings: res=2, DE step factor=0.7, max iter=250). Actual render time in real life was about half that since it was split across two machines: a linux box running Ubuntu and an OS X box running Windows XP in a VirtualBox. 1. Ok so what the fuck? This is awesome. Wish it was HD though.

I want to watch it on an enormous screen, with different music. Maybe some Vangelis.

Can’t wait to show this to my artist friends.

  2. We are the Borg. Lower your shields and surrender your ships. We will add your biological and technological distinctiveness to our own. Your culture will adapt to service us. Resistance is futile.

  3. Thanks! And indeed it’s not a bad analogy, particularly when you appreciate the infinite (quite literally!) complexity and detail in this fractal structure.

My rendering pales in comparison to some of the masters like xlace, of course, but all of these structures are almost beyond comprehension…like the Archai. :-)

  4. Thanks! I’ve got a better idea of some of the render settings, I think.

You’d mentioned the next version on Fractal Forums (in response to my bug report for 0.93) and I can’t wait to see it. You’ve done some awesome work on the software and some beautiful fly-thrus.

  5. This animation is great! It is much better than previous. Good work!
In few weeks I will release next version of Mandelbulber with some additional tools for keyframe animation editing.
